The REFOREST PG Tool is Now Live to Support Sustainable Land Management

We are pleased to announce that the ReForest Public Goods Tool (PG Tool) is now available online. This practical, free-to-use assessment tool is designed to support farmers, landowners, advisors, researchers and others in evaluating the sustainability of land management practices, with a particular focus on agriculture and agroforestry.

The PG Tool captures and scores a range of indicators that reflect the production of public goods on farms and landholdings. These indicators include areas such as soil health, landscape and heritage, biodiversity, climate impact, social capital, and more. The tool provides users with a clear, visual representation of how their land management practices perform across these categories, offering both web diagrams and bar charts to support understanding and further analysis.

Using the PG Tool is straightforward. Users begin by entering basic farm information, followed by responses to questions across ten categories. Once all required data is entered, the tool generates a score from 1 to 5 for each indicator.

Importantly, the tool does not store data on external servers. Users save their assessments locally and can return to them later by re-uploading the saved file. Anonymisation is also possible.

The PG Tool has been developed as part of ReForest’s ongoing effort to provide practical, evidence-based resources that support the adoption of agroforestry and sustainable land use systems across Europe and support the co-creation approach where farmers and stakeholders are active participants in the transition to more resilient, productive landscapes.

A full user manual offers a clear guidance on how to navigate the interface and complete assessments.
